![]() Astronomical dusk is the time when the sun has set, and stars have come out.There are three types of dusk: astronomical, civil and nautical dusk: It can also be used for a failure or ending, as something fades away into obscurity. When we think of dusk, we typically are referencing twilight fading into night – just before sunset and after civil twilight have passed. Dusk often (but not always) refers to evening twilight. ![]() For example, there was a time when very little was known about distant galaxies, so astronomers called them “Twilight Zones.” What does dusk mean?ĭusk is the opposite of dawn, as it is when light has faded to darkness. The term “twilight” also refers to something which is dimly understood or imperfectly known. So even though a corner of a room may be in “darkness” it’s really just in the shadows of another area.
